Come and give your support at the Refugee Encampment Closure Rally Tues, 22nd Oct 5.30pm
Weβre walking for 10,000 refugees who have been living in Australia for more than 10 years and are part of our community. But they are still waiting for permanent visas. Make your steps count. Help us complete our virtual walk around Australia and show politicians that you care. The Big Walk will culminate in Canberra with a final local walk to Parliament House on Tuesday 26 March where there will be engagement with politicians to discuss the issues and policy options to resolve this intolerable situation for the 10,000+ people living in limbo for more than 10 years. Walk, run, swim or cycle β you can even dance, row and skip! Just sign up to our Big Walk app or online so that your distances count towards our virtual walk. Spread the word, lace up, and get moving. Every step, pedal, or lap counts. (taken from the βGrandmothersβ newsletter)
The Walk in solidarity with the women who walked to Canberra from Melbourne last year will take place at Karkarook Park on Saturday 23rd March at 10.30 am. See attached invitation. Please invite your friends, including any refugees on temporary visas that you know. We are hoping that we will be joined by one or more of the women who walked to Canberra, and possibly one of them will address us. We are also likely to have one or more members of the mayoral Task Force for the City of Kingston joining us. (Karkarook Park is in the Kingston municipality).
